I liked this hotel. Very close to 2 subway lines, that can whisk you to the city, airport or Oriente Railway Station. The neighbourhood is a bit rough, but we never felt uncomfortable. We found a number of good eating options in some unassuming restaurants nearby. Our room was clean and facing the rear of the building. It had an A/C unit, a safe and good natural lighting. The bed was comfortable - the pillows less so. Breakfast was fine and we appreciated the breakfast box provided when we went on an early starting day trip. We utilised the hotel organised airport shuttle successfully for a very early flight. We often interacted with Benndita at the front desk. She was very helpful and a pleasure to deal with. I’d stay there again if in Lisbon.

I decided to book a 3 night stay here partly on the basis of TA reviews. Hotel easy to get to by metro from airport,, via the Red line down to Alemada then change to green line and one stop to Arroios station which is 50 metres from hotel. The street in general , less than a mile from the city centre may seem a bit grubby but once inside the hotel, a smart reception and friendly and very helpful staff await. I requested a quiet room at the back as other reviewers referred to busy street noise and we were given a twin room 209 at the rear. Very smart, spotlessly clean, comfortable beds, a small fridge. (But not kettle for making a brew in the room) Quiet in the room but strangely I was aware at times of the distant rùmble of the metro trains underground but this wasn't really an issue. Breakfast is served between 7.30 to 10 and I have to say I was very impressed with the choice of food on offer, cereals, fruit, breads, eggs, scrambled and hard boiled. even sponge cakes and little pastries. Coffee machine gave a wide selection as well as the fruit juices on offer. It set us up well for the day exploring Lisbon. With Arroios metro station just outside, its a just five minute ride into the city and very easy to navigate. The room stay worked out the equivalent of £50 per person per night which was great value. With very helpful staff and excellent cleaning service in the rooms I would certainly use the Empire Hotel if I return to Lisbon.

Hotel is lovely, very nice staff, breakfast good, room spacious. Location however is awful, homeless sleeping in tents, graffiti, people begging, not much around. Our room faced the street, the noise from ambulance and police sirens was going all night, unless you shut the windows completely and woke up to huge levels of condensation you will hear the relentless traffic. Bathroom was tiny, only 1 chair in our room. Cleaning was very good and fresh towels every day.

Please don't stay in this hotel if you like to go away and relax having some food and a drink on your break away. They have no restaurant or bar in this hotel. We were told on check-in that the owner is Muslim and does not allow alcohol to be served. They have a bar which they call it that only get coffee and I think soft drinks. They do have a dining room that serves breakfast that we had included in our stay for 3 nights but after the first morning having breakfast we could not go again. Quality of food was so bad. The smell in the room was so bad but the room did look clean. Shower was leaking everywhere. No kettle in the room. Room was facing the front of the hotel and the noise was so bad, must be a hospital close because a ambulance went by every 5 minutes. You could hear upstairs room having a shower and hear the toilet being flushed every few minutes. Bed was so uncomfortable, you could feel a hard mattress under neat you. This has ruined our break away that we saved for to go away for our anniversary. Very bad area the hotel is in. We went to a different hotel to relax and have a drink and we checked out the price for that hotel and there was no difference in price for a 4 star so staying in the empire hotel was not to save money, the hotel actually looks nice on photos but it's not what you get when you arrive. We were never so happy to leave a hotel and get home. We got no sleep for 3 nights and because of this ruined of stay in lisbon.. We did say all this to reception but they had excuses for everything and weren't really listening to us.

We came to Lisbon to celebrate a birthday and stayed in 3 rooms in the Empire Lisbon Hotel. I emailed before hand and requested birthday greetings and bottle of Prosecco for one of the rooms. The room has been decorated perfectly on arrival. All rooms were more than adequate for our city break celebrations. All were clean and comfortable although the shower was confusing at first and I got soaked trying to navigate it, some mould was apparent on some lower tiles. Metro a few minutes away which we used each day, combined with the bus and tram. There is a supermarket next door which was utilised as we had fridges in the rooms and were able to store plenty of drinks and snacks! Breakfast was great a mix of continental and hot food. Sadly no Gluten Free options were available but again we popped to the supermarket and stocked up!! We felt safe walking around at night and found the Secret Garden LX bar where the views were absolutely amazing although there were over 100 steps to get to it!
